Qatar News in 60 Seconds – Thursday 16th July 2020 S1E99

It’s Thursday 16th of July, this is the news in 60 seconds

In today’s papers

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy or SC, Yesterday announced that the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, will host the opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 60,000 seat stadium takes its name and design from the traditional tents used by nomadic peoples in the Gulf region.

The tournament will kick off in Al Bayt Stadium on Monday the 21st of November at 1pm local time.

The SC also announced that the tournaments final game will be held in the larger 80,000 capacity stadium located in Lusail. And that will take place on December the 18th which is Qatar’s National Day. Kicking off at 6pm.

The last batch of recovered COVID-19 patients leave Mesaieed Hospital.

They were the last of over 6,170 patients to have been treated there over the last few months.

This is now the second of Hamad Medical Corporations hospitals, which have been dedicated to treating COVID-19 patients to make their final discharge. Ras Laffan was the first earlier in the month.

Qatar joins the 5 other GCC countries and the United States of America in placing four entities, and two people on the Terrorism List.

The individuals and entities have played a vital role in transferring funds to support Syrian based ISIS fighters.

And finally, following Tuesday’s historic legal victory by Qatar over the four blockading countries. Qatar Airways is going to seek damages for losses sustained as a result of the blockading countries closing their airspace, to Qatar registered aircraft.

Now here’s a quick look at yesterday’s COVID update – Which shows 450 new positive cases…..  477 recoveries, and I’m sad to say, 1 death.

Active cases have now dropped to 3,195. Meaning a decrease of 28 in the previous 24hr period. The downward trend has slowed. And this was completely expected. Of course I hoped the monumental drop could continue. But I knew it would realistically have to slow down towards the end.

There will be no prediction for a date to be under 1,000 active cases today. But I’m sure it will be very soon.

That’s all for today, please take care, and I’ll see ya tomorrow.
