It’s Thursday 9th of July, this is the news in 60 seconds
Todays big story on the front page of all three English medium news papers is that; Commercial activities are to resume on weekends.
The cabinet yesterday decided that all commercial activities in the country will resume on Friday’s and Saturdays. And that shops will remain open over the weekend as well.
Which is absolutely brilliant. So tomorrow I’m going to Marks & Spencer’s in DFC to buy a new tie.
Also announced in yesterday’s cabinet meeting is that private companies owned by the state, or where the state is an investor, must raise the ratio of Qatari’s in their workforce to 60%. And in the case of Human Resources departments, that an even higher ratio of Qatari’s at 80% for companies that are subject to retirement and pension laws.
On Tuesday I saw a story on the front page of the Gulf Times, and I meant to read it to you. I have no idea how, but I managed to miss it. So rewind…. Qatar to host the Asian snooker championships in November. Which will coincide with Qatar’s hosting of the World Snooker Championship. However it has been stated that the two competitions will not take place in Qatar, unless it’s absolutely safe.
And I’d like to give a huge shout out to the great website ‘I Love Qatar.net’ for coming up with original and interesting content. I especially found their 24-hour supermarket story from yesterday extremely useful. Well done ILQ, keep up that great work.
Here’s a quick look yesterday’s COVID update – Which shows 608 new positive cases….. 1,204 recoveries and I’m very sad to say, 4 deaths.
Active cases have now dropped to 5,308 meaning a decrease of exactly 600 in the previous 24hr period.
And this means we have to revise our prediction. The graph is now indicating once again, that we should have less than 1,000 active cases of covid-19 by July 24th. Yay!!!
That’s all for today, please take care, and I’ll see ya tomorrow.
