It’s Thursday the 2nd of July, this is the news in 60 seconds

Ras Laffan Hospital discharges their last COVID-19 patient. But this does not mean we can relax too much. Although the numbers are dropping, we must continue with precautions to keep the curve heading downwards.

Private sector working hours return to normal from today. Following a decision by the cabinet yesterday to reverse an earlier decision that continued to restricted working hours.

And newspapers are available in printed form again from today. After a 100 day break, the printing presses are rolling again and the papers are back on the street. Wow… it’s a good news Thursday.

Retail outlets in malls, restaurants and public parks reopen.

Yesterday I visited Souq Waqif, which was just waking from its 3 months lockdown. And I also visited Doha Festival City. My goodness it was amazing being back in the Souq, enjoying a cheese and honey sandwich with a chi. And in Festival City it was so much like before, but with masks, that you almost forget anything has changed. My only disappointment was that whilst I agree 100% with the checks entering the mall for Ehteraz and body temperature. The continued checking at individual store entrances within the mall became very irritating. If I’m in the mall. I have already been checked.

And as a reminder that COVID-19 is still with us. Precautionary measures in malls means that children below the age of 12, are not allowed in shopping complexes. Malls and shopping complexes will also continue to be closed on Friday’s and Saturdays.

Now, let’s take a quick look at the numbers for yesterday’s COVID update – Which shows 915 new positive cases. An awesome 2,401 recoveries and I’m so sorry to say, 2 deaths.

Active cases have now dropped to 12,923 meaning an incredible decrease of 1,488 in the previous 24hr period.

That’s all for today, please take care, and I’ll see ya tomorrow.
