The Qatar News in around 60 Seconds – Wednesday 1st July 2020

It’s Wednesday the 1st of July, this is the news in 60 seconds

Phase 2 of the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions begins today.

All parks, beaches and the corniche will reopen to all ages

All shops to reopen in malls, but still no dine in for mall restaurants

50% of staff to resume at their place of work. Meaning now only half will be working from home.

Gatherings will be limited to 5 people only

And some libraries & museums reopen. The remainder are allowed to open when they are ready to do so.

Precautionary measures remain the same. Ehteraz, face mask, social distancing. You know the form.

And the next phase, phase 3, will give us back childcare and nurseries, gyms, health spas, barbers and salons. But we will have to wait one month until August 1st before we can enjoy those things.

The final phase starting September 1st, phase 4, will give us back public transport, theaters, and cinemas, and of course the easing of international travel regulations. In fact, most things will be back to normal, but with precautions.

Sidra develops their second COVID-19 rapid testing method.

Current methods for testing, from the time of swab sample, to result, takes 4 to 6 hours. The new method developed in-house at Sidra Medicine’s pathology lab, can reduce that time by up to two hours and reduce the cost by a whopping 75%. It also requires less sophisticated equipment meaning that countries with less resources can improve their testing capacity considerably. Great job Sidra, your showing the world what Qatar can do.

Now, let’s take a quick look at the numbers for yesterday’s COVID update – Which shows 982 new positive cases. 1,394 recoveries and I’m delighted to say, no deaths.

Active cases are now 14,411 meaning a decrease of 412 in the previous 24hr period.

That’s all for today, please take care, and I’ll see ya tomorrow. Unless your in Souq Waqif today, in which case I’ll see you later.
