The Qatar News in around 60 Seconds – Thursday 18th June 2020

It’s Thursday 18th of June, this is the news in 60 seconds

The Ministry of Public Health and its partners are intensifying their awareness campaign of COVID-19 preventative measures. And they need to, because people are already starting to forget why they are so necessary.

The British newspaper ‘The Telegraph’ has apologized for two articles it published back in 2019. In which they appear try to tarnish the image and good name of Qatar Charity. I am very proud of the quality of British journalism, but not that newspaper.

You must have a confirmed booking in one of the designated quarantine hotels here in Qatar. If you are travelling on a return ticket says the Civil Aviation Authority. Anyone returning to Qatar up until September 1st, must stay in a Quarantine Hotel for a minimum of two weeks. Now I say September 1st, because nothing has been published for procedures after September 1st. Thus I know some people are planning to travel and return after September 1st, gambling that there will be no quarantine by the time they get back in to Qatar. That’s quite a gamble, because the chances of the quarantine rule being extended are quite high. Let’s see.

Newspapers in blockading countries are trying their best to spin yesterdays news, in which The World Trade Organisation found in Qatar’s favor. Regarding the Pirate TV Station beoutQ and Saudi Arabia. Qatar’s resounding victory in this case is impossible to spin without publishing news that is false. But I’m sure that’s not going to stop them.

No Sales or activities that will draw large crowds permitted in malls. And I have no problem with that whatsoever. I was simply delighted that I could at last wonder around my favorite store in Villaggio, Virgin Megastore once more. Even with a mask and social distancing. It was great. Look out IKEA, I will see you next week.

Let’s take a quick look at the numbers for yesterday’s COVID update – Which shows 1,097 new positive cases. 1,711 recoveries and I’m very sad to say, 2 deaths.

Active cases are now 20,902 meaning a decrease of 634 in the previous 24hrs period. The handout say’s 20,920, but I’m going with my calculations. Over the previous week, the number of active cases is dropping by an average of 457 per day. If that rate continues it will take another 45 days to get below 1,000 active cases. So August first then. But that’s only if we all continue to take precautions.

That’s all for today, please take precautions, and I’ll see ya tomorrow.
