The Qatar News in around 60 Seconds – Sunday 12th July 2020

It’s Sunday 12th of July, this is the news in 60 seconds

The Peninsula seems to cover all of todays stories, so we’ll just stick with that one.

Early detection is behind Qatar’s low COVID-19 mortality rate say’s the Health Minister.

Hamad International Airport is voted the second-best international airport globally. Based an a reader survey by the world renowned travel magazine aptly named ‘Travel & Leisure’.

Voters considered Hamad among their favorite, and praised the airport for it’s exceptional staff service. Facilities, extensive shopping options and lounges which are all housed under one expansive terminal.

Then at the bottom of the front page is coverage Lusail’s Place Vendom project. Which is due to open in September 2021.

The multibillion-riyal project located on Lusail’s sea front, will have 2 five start hotels, a mall featuring 600 different retail outlets, and an entertainment center. Along with a myriad of other attractions.

It features a canal running through it, fed directly from the sea.

And will be reminiscent of the famous high-end shopping street in Paris called; Rue de la Pai, of which Place Vendom is the starting point.

On to page 3, and we have; Salwa Beach Resort due to open soon.

Hmmm… today’s news is reading like a Qatar travel brochure.

Katara Hospitality announced yesterday that the Salwa Beach Resort will be opening its doors soon. It also said that due to partial opening and the limited availability of inventory. They will only be allotting one villa per family, until all premises are operational.

Ashghal opens a new 7km road with 3 major junctions. Linking the Doha Expressway and Southern Expressway. And when I look at an aerial photo of this giant plate of spaghetti, I can’t help but remember the single roundabout that this has replaced.

50 to 70 abandoned vehicles to be removed daily in Industrial Area. With an expected total of 10,000 abandoned vehicles to be removed during this campaign.

And finally; 13,000 nurses caring for COVID-19 patients in Qatar.

Hamad Medical Corporation say that nearly 13,000 nurses have provided essential services to tens of thousands of patients. Across a wide spectrum of COVID-19 related healthcare sites, since the start of the pandemic.

Now here’s a quick look yesterday’s COVID update – Which shows 498 new positive cases…..  701 recoveries, and I’m very happy to say, no deaths.

Information on the current number of active cases is no longer provided. So, we’re calculating the figure from information they have shared. Yesterday there were 4,251 active cases so with today’s adjustments that means active cases have now dropped to 4,048. Meaning a decrease of 203 in the previous 24hr period.

And this means our prediction stays the same for the moment. The graph is still indicating, that we should have less than 1,000 active cases of covid-19 by July 23rd.

That’s all for today, please take care, and I’ll see ya tomorrow.
